block sanding sucks !

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by 31Vicky with a hemi, Dec 28, 2012.

  1. Of course it going to be black.
I can't think of anything much worse.
I'm so freaking sore, the only time it feels better is if I start sanding again.
Body panels as big as a house, details so small !!!
    1/4" 90* body lines !!
Lots of concave curves on a conical plane. Big ones and small ones

    What a PITA!!!

    Lots of guide coats too

Two rounds of upoll reface done and just sprayed second round of primer.

Oh, can we afford another block sanding sucks thread

  2. I feel your pain! I spent the day hammering and welding a door skin. Fuckin hands are about done.

Yep, it sucks and that is why it is called BODY WORK instead of body fun.

When you are finished I know a guy in Florida that needs a 48 Chevy panel truck done. I'll swear it's at least 1/2 mile long and 100' tall.

I do it everyday for a living. I wish I could say it gets better but it doesn't. If I didn't love building cars so much I'd really be doubting my choice of careers.

This is the reason GOOD paint jobs start at $5,000 and go UP from there!!!

By the way DON"T EVER arm wrestle an experienced painter!!!

(for all you guys and girls that say they can do it cheaper,
quicker, whatever... go F*** your self, I am a retired painter!!!)

It WILL be worth it in the end. And you can say you did it... Take your time and do it one panel at a time. Break it up...

I'm thinking a little horse radish cheddar would pair up well with this flavor of wine. Might just provide a little boost for more energy.

My last 4 have been shiny black, but NEVER again. NEVER, I mean NEVER again. I proved to myself I could do it, not once, but four times, and that is enough. If I ever need another car done shiny black, I'll write you a big fat check and you can come and do it for me.

In all seriousness..good luck to you. Block it one more time than you think is really nessessary, then go for the color. I know you can do it, I have faith in you.

Here is the one that almost killed me....

    Good luck, -Abone.

Cowboy up! Shiny paint? Straight panels? Something to do? Priceless. And wet sanding the clear is part of the deal.

There is probably little doubt in your mind why there are so many flat black primmer cars around now. :D

I very happy there are people like you that take the time to do the job, I like looking at the fine finished cars, but I'm sure not the guy to do it anymore. The one I did years ago was more then enough. These days I can stand about 20 hours of sanding with a DA before I'm done. Sanding sucks, block sanding is worse. Have fun. Gene

Hey 31Vicky, aside from the ribbing can we help with any suggestions? It's hard tedious work but can be made easier if done right.

Please expound on the "easier if done right". It sucked when I was young and healthy, now I have serious arthritis in shoulders, wrists, elbows, fingers... Any ideas on making it easier, less painful would be appreciated. Thanks.

  29. dont know if you guys caught my recent paint threads but this is the color.
    black candy over pink.
    3 mile deep black -
a 500 watt hallogen makes it purple.
