Sounds a little too "and next I'm gonna take over the world" to me. It's their show...let 'em have it.
Great idea Ryan. DO IT! I'm behind you on this one. I think the HAMB award may even encourage some builders to enter the GNRS who would have not otherwise gave a shit about it.
I don't want it to be a "HAMB" award or a "TJJ" award... I don't want business to get in the way of cool - ya know? I want it to be somewhat anonymous, but I want the guy that wins it to know how legitimate it is... We will figure it out...
You are so bad! The winner this year is incredibly, unbelievably boring. I look forward to seeing this unfold. Thanks, Ryan!
Ryan I think you have a good idea. When I took my roadster for AMBR last year, I could really care less about being in competition. The awards don't matter at the end of the day i was happy to walk away with Chips design pick. Build the car you want, you get to take it home and enjoy it they won't make you leave it there. The compliements from the people I respect and look up to were my award.
I think if you did it would add a little weight to it. The intention is for "this" group to vote on our interpretation of what the most beautiful roadster is as opposed to the official judges unless I'm missing something. Once the onsite judges submit a series of cars for us to look at I take it. Not sure what you should call it but I think you should consider using TJJ in the title. A lot of us will vote for a winner. It should be a very nice looking award and I agree with some other folks about it. It will become a coveted award. Stop underselling. Granted the HAMB may not be as important in the car world as we'd like to think...but I tend to think people listen when they can tune in through all the noise.
Whenever there is a "coveted" award to be won.....there will be those to build ONLY to win it.............
Ryan - Great move - count me in if I can be of any help! John Buck needs to wake up and realize what he's promoting. He could do so much more with this show if he had a little professionalism!
Pretty punk fucking rock, Ryan. I like it. I really think that you should sneak it in. No ceremony, no bs. Set it down, take a couple of pix and sneak away. Guerrilla style - Might be kinda hard with the Indy style monstrosity... I'm betting that if the muckity mucks at the GNRS got wind of this they would have issues with a HAMB award - especially if they are reading the HAMB this week... go sneaky. - Joe
if the idea here is to give special recognition to a car that is beautiful and that gets the majority of votes taken from those present at the show and those who cant come to the show but who can vote by email, and if the field is narrowed down to 5 or 10 cars by a group present at the show (wherever that might be) who can be counted on to represent the rest of us fairly, then i would go for that. In my opinion, it should be more of a peoples choice award anyway, and there would definitely be a LOT more votes that way, which would REALLY reinforce the impact of the award because it would be A LOT of PEOPLES VOTES and not some few selected judges opinions that would determine the MOST BEAUTIFUL ROADSTER. I like the idea of the award being hand constructed and the trophy being passed from one winner to the next by the previous years winner, and maybe the winners name, year, and car engraved, kinda like the indy 500 trophy. I dont think that you need the GNRS to accomplish this, nor do I think that it should even be considered. The two just arent compatable....anymore. Who knows; maybe the "real" contenders will start showing at this show instead of the GNRS.
Well, well, this should stir some shit, huh? Actually, a couple of good things could come from it: We'll see traditional cars taken more seriously at the GNRS, and hopefully we'll see MORE traditional, well-built cars. The GNRS (although I hate to admit it) has improved dramatically since leaving NorCal. If the show embraces the idea of a HAMB trophy, it would actually enhance the show even more. Obviously, they couldn't do it offically. The award would lose its maverick appeal -- and every dipshit car club out their would be handing out "their" trophies. Maverick awards have been a part of woodie meets for years. They're (usually) acknowledged and supported by event organizers. With a few exceptions, most woodie folks are there for the party anyway -- not for awards or trophies. I think it's safe to say the same goes for most of us. A HAMB trophy is a brillant idea Ryan. It's outside the politics of the GNRS and it's a great way to acknowledge the incredible work we're seeing these days in traditional cars.
Good idea and very democratic. This method coupled with the caliber of the HAMB's experiance and knowledge, will insure a "pick" worthy of this, soon to be (no doubt), coveted award. Although, of course, the billet set will disagree; DILIGAF!
So, just for the point of conversation, would this be necessary if more/better cars showed up at the Revolution?
There is no doubt in my military mind. There was a Cochran at the planning session for the Boston Tea Party. Let the people be heard. Next victim...The Riddler Award.
At most shows that I go to, there are club sponsored awards. Not to knock the club awards, but I think that this would be something a little more prestigious... a little more "Main Hall" - right? - Joe
I don't want it to be a "HAMB" award or a "TJJ" award... I don't want business to get in "the way of cool - ya know? I want it to be somewhat anonymous, but I want the guy that wins it to know how legitimate it is... We will figure it out..." See if you can bring a few other terroristic organizations into the deal as co-sponsors representing hotrodding...AHRF?? Standards...AMBR has standards, basically saying add up all the mods and subtract anything less smooth than a teflon lawyer. Do we need standards, listing out the look and the purpose we envision, or is it gonna just be like pornography..."Hard to define...but I know it when I see it"?? "Traditional" and "Hot Rod" do need some defining thought; obviously, this wouldn't be an award just for the guy who managed to score the most iconic 1952 vintage speed equipment on Ebay and screw it all to the world's best preserved deuce. And...izzit going to be a ROADSTER award or just Hotrod? Should be the former, I think, just because of the inspiration for this...we're pushing off from the AMBR, not the Ridler.
Hahaha, that's awesome. How is it going to be a "trophy" that is passed on from year to year if it's not branded to the TJJ/HAMB? AMBR is one letter away from HAMB... HAMBR. The revolution has begun (again).
