So this one is almost entirely off-topic, but if you fellas are anything like me you'll dig it. Shorpy Higginbotham was a hard working and usually filthy appearing young man that grew up working the coal mines of Alabama. In the Higginbotham househo...

To read the rest of this blog entry from The Jalopy Journal, click here.
Yes, it is. One of my favorite sites, ever. I can spend hours looking at the photos about life back in the day.
Awesome website. Thanks for posting it. Shorpy looks like he was a pretty kick-ass young man. Reminds me of my grandfather. That was a different time for sure. & FWIW..... I like chicks without bras better. JH
What a gem of a site huh? I mean the quality of the pictures is breathtaking. I would love to have a few or all of these prints for my home. Bookmarked.
FWIW..... I like chicks without bras better. Good point... I hardly noticed 'membership' was spelled wrong on that poster.
Ryan...really appreciate this posting..very interesting as some of the photos were taken by one of my familys historian...Marion Post Wolcott Thanks again Bob Wolcott
Life looked pretty hard back then, glad I didnt have live on a dirt floor and go to work in a mill at the age of 10. on a lighter note those alliance ads over the past few days have been pretty funny.
I've been adding photos from Shorpy for about a year to my blog, http://justacarguy.blogspot.com/ what a source of time capsule photography!
I almost started a post on here with Ryan's first photo. It's creepy to me. But I didn't. Yea, Shorpy and plan59.com rock.
LosBoulevardosJames turned me onto that website awhile back. I check with it on an almost daily basis.
Interesting site for anyone into history. I particularly enjoyed the Cival War pages. Shame that I hardly have enough time for the HAMB as it is, let alone other sites.
I was kind of blindsided by that one. I just lost my Dad last year, and seeing this reminded me of my wifes Dad who was raised in the coal mines. He was killed on the job in Hazard working as the night foreman for cypress coal. Damn I miss the great examples of men the two of them were.
neat site. is it me or is it freaky how good some old photos turn out. i have a few brownie box cameras that i ocasionally play with and i am amazed at how well the pics turn out. i just briefly browsed the site but i dig it!!
i stumbled on that site a while ago. I wasted hours just looking at the photos. It is amazing how just a photo can connect you to a time, and a place you've never been to.
I used to think that chicks in fireproof driving suits were sexy, but now I'm thinking that babes wearing welding goggles are the can o' corn! The Shorpy site is a true gem. And you've got to go back every day to see what's new. And if that doesn't kill enough of your spare time then you can always read all the comments.
