Just like the Ole Wartime Jeeps...At least they installed seat belts...well probably after a trip out the side...

The doors probably were used along with the trunk lid for skidding wood and stuff...

Agreed they would have been a nice addition...

 

I read the other post, too much nit picking. We can see what it is but have no way of knowing what it was. If the story is true it was built by a kid in the '40s and driven across the county. That is more of a pedigree than most of todays "hot rods" have. It doesn't need my approval but I like it as well as a lot of cars that have won trophies in car shows I've been to.

...even though a very crude Jalopy Hotrod Racer there are without question details that could have influenced a Hotrodders creativity...even Custom, but this Thread isn't about that...

This was the Early 50s...known as a Cutdown...they were apparently banned due to to many injuries perhaps due to lack of headroom because of body mods such as sectioning and chopping...

When they were banned the return was to stock Height unchopped vehicles I suspect providing more space for the driver...these were still very unprotected times for racers...but truly still visually interesting due to lack of protruding guards...

I often wonder how many of these racers were Hotrodders off the track...to me I suspect quite a few were...

These examples above were I suspect built and driven by Kenny Torrent...he was pretty adventurous in his presentations...using Flames, Bobbed Fenders, Chopping and sectioning...all Hotrod details...

I am sad to hear that. Rich Fox was an accomplished hot rodder and has added a lot of valuable content to this site. There are a lot of hot rodding treasures out there that he created or had a hand in. He passed a lot of it on in the last couple of years hopefully to good homes to people who appreciate what they have. If we are lucky we will get to see what they do with it and remember Rich when we do.

Hello,

Here are some photos of an unusual hot rod driver running around the coastal cities. It was once on display at a “sock company” parking lot between daily driving runs all over the coastal areas. At first, it looked to be “not finished.” The 32 grille started the patina look and when we saw it running on the streets, it sounded nice... the SBC motor just had that sound as it accelerated and idled while parking.

Over the years, it sat out in front of the famous sock company offices. But recently, it has disappeared and the sock company now has a new surfware company in its old office building. The patina roadster has been gone for quite some time.

The photo below came from the old Aces Hot Rod show in Huntington Beach.

This hot rod has been seen getting around South Orange County. My wife saw this black roadster coming down a long hill, as it stood out among the big SUVs and sedans. Open roadsters are sighted during our short coastal drives North and South, but she was surprised at what was headed our way.

It was turning right as we were going straight ahead. For me, it was hidden behind those giant SUVs, so I did not see it driving until it turned right. It has been seen a lot of times, driving around, just about anywhere in the So Cal area.

The uncapped headers are unhindered and made a nice sound as it accelerated away from us as we were crossing the intersection. A set of nice headers on an SBC motor always sounds nice…

It is not a finished show quality roadster, but has seen plenty of local miles running errands or just enjoying the local coastal scenes provided by Mother Nature.


It may not be most people’s idea of a hot rod, but it gets driven daily and certainly draws attention wherever it goes.

 

Probably lots of fun...might even pull a wheelie!
