I made the trip from Knoxville over to Winston Salem as a first time invitee to The ONSI this weekend, what an event these guy's know how to get it done. Phil Shevlin (Wdglide on the Hamb) and I drove our model A coupes the 250 miles over the mountain to attend. A trip anywhere in a hot rod is nice but over the twisting I 40 through the Tennessee Carolina border is spectacular. don't believe me ask Hot Rod Primer.
The official event starts on Friday with a cruise and a lunch stop, we didn't make that as we were still on our way and took a detour to Ben Haag's Bluefield Vintage Engine Works, home of the bitchin "Pale Rider" deuce 3 window. We did make Winston Salem in time for the Friday night cruise in portion held at a local brewpub for some great craft brews and food truck fair.
Saturday all the invitees gathered on a downtown street which had two blocks cordoned off for the cars. Since this was an invite only event every car there had something special to offer. The cars were invite only but the show was open to all spectators for free.
When the street portion of the show ended the invitees drove their cars to the home of one of the organizers Matt Hurley for a bodacious after party complete with catered food, live music, craft beer kegs, shop tour, and home made ice cream imported from Virginia and delivered on a bitchin 50's International pickup.
Not had enough fun yet? On Sunday the other half of the event organization team Chris May managed to get the use of a local paved roundy round track for the invitees to take a few laps in their hot rods.
    The pictures that follow are presented roughly in the order that I have described the events. 20210924_104401.jpg 20210924_104506.jpg 20210924_161822.jpg 20210924_160759.jpg 20210926_160438.jpg 20210924_195950.jpg 20210924_195957.jpg 20210924_200012.jpg 20210925_113559.jpg 20210925_151442.jpg 20210925_100055.jpg 20210925_104010.jpg 20210925_104042.jpg 20210925_104055.jpg 20210925_104134.jpg 20210925_104213.jpg 20210925_104350.jpg 20210925_104806_01.jpg 20210925_104402.jpg 20210925_105246.jpg 20210925_105551.jpg 20210925_105619.jpg 20210925_105644.jpg 20210925_105720.jpg 20210925_105741.jpg 20210925_110101.jpg 20210925_110144.jpg 20210925_110308.jpg 20210925_110216.jpg 20210925_114200.jpg more to follow

What a great gathering of some very fine machines, the shot of the interior of the building that has the piper cubs, and motorcycle and tractors and hot rods did it for me, plus the shots of the blue "MOPAR" roadster with the cool artillery wheels, simply magnificent ! Great photo's of great machines !
    Thanks for posting Gary !

Have to say, it was a great event overall. Nothing like getting to turn some laps in an old hot rod!

Well, someone's gotta ask...if it's an invitational, what does one have to do to get invited?

Just send a photo of your traditional hot rod or custom to their Instagram, or web site when next years event is announced and request an invitation. If it's Hamb qualified and cool your probably invited. Apply early though, I understand they keep the numbers limited to keep the event manageable.

I hate I had to miss it. I asked Chris to keep me on the invite list, however. Thanks for posting those pics!

  26. Nice photos. I looked around for you so I could meet you, but no luck. I hate I missed out on Sunday. That looks like a blast. Next year I’ll get a room and stay for all the events. This is a great concept and great show!

  27. With your old 354 and chrome wire covers!

The Old North State Invitational really is an awesome show. Matt @Hurley50 and Chris @MayDay do a great job planning the show and the driving activities before and after, and the quality of cars is top notch.
