The Race Of Gentlemen West

The Race Of Gentlemen West

Before the summer started, I had three events I was planning to attend come hell or high water: The Hotrod Hill Climb, The Bayou Round Up, and The Race Of Gentlemen West. And then, after all that was in the books I was gonna take my wife on our first real couples vacation in three or four years.

This was all interrupted with an unplanned spinal surgery almost a month ago now.

Physically, it just proved to be impossible for me to hit any of these events and I decided about three weeks ago that I simply wasn’t going to miss my long planned vacation with my wife. I’ve been taking half days and watching a shitload of Netflix ever since – allowing my body to heal with Adrian Peterson type speed.

My plan has mostly worked and my wife and I are jet setting this Wednesday, but it did come at a cost. I’ve missed some great events and all of these were capped this weekend with something I think will eventually go down as something pretty historical – The Race Of Gentlemen West.

Now, I’ve been to the Race Of Gentlemen East before and you can read my writeup here. Looking back, it’s one of the top two or three events that I have ever been to. In fact, that writeup is one of my personal favorites. And despite some beef that I got for it, I’ve never regretted writing how I felt it. I’m proud of that one.

Anyway, TROG West promised to be even more special. Having the event on the west coast just makes the logistics so much easier to have truly historical and special cars in attendance. I mean, who in their right mind would want to miss the Barney Navarro roadster tearing down a beach? Not me. But, I did… and it was torturous.

From what I’ve heard, the weather was terrible and the environment hostile. Rain enveloped the beach and when you mix water with sand, you get mud. Even so, I haven’t talked to a single person that didn’t have a good time. It’s events like this that make Hot Rodding in my opinion – things built to go fast are best viewed when doing so.

In any case, I don’t have any coverage of the event obviously… But I’m hoping you guys do. If so, attach your favorite images of the event to this thread. I, for one, will be glad ya did.
