    From time to time, the guy that maintains a small muscle car collection for a major speed equipment manufacturer vacations in Durango and I'm fortunate to have him work on my A's. Finished up the '29 CCPU with the B motor and original CRAGAR yesterday. He'll do the Zipper today so it's ready for the FAST hillclimb in Utah on the 16th and 17th

    Thanks I'll be OK .... I've lost nearly 50lbs since the surgery...... about 20 to go.

    I don't post much on here, but I've had a subscription for years and I lurk a lot.
    First, Jim, keep getting better.
    Second, I am going to make some rocker arms for the Ford B fuel pump. Ford stacked three pieces of .080 steel and riveted them together. I am going to make them the same way. Question, what type of steel might be best for this purpose. I know a bunch of you guys fab stuff, so I thought this is a good place to ask.

    Thanks guys........ I just go on ....... it's not a straight line but it's up more than down. Even when I can't use my hands I still stay active in design and solutions for our projects and sometimes for others. There's always a project around here

    Not a huge load on them, probably just made from mild steel , maybe with a hard pad for wear surface . Quite a few pumps are the same as B Ford.
    In fact there are a bunch of AC pumps with the same body , mount and internals where only the lever changes for different applications. ANd some other makes use the exact same pump as the B.

  15. After sitting for a month waiting on basic gaskets from one vendor, I cancelled the order and got a set from Snyders within a week. Got it back together and fired up. Just idled in the driveway as it got late. Now onto syncing the carbs and timing.

  17. With reluctance, I'll admit it was Mac's with the delay on the gaskets. No clue why the delay, and I didn't ask. Simple engine gaskets... That said.

    Success!!! I can now drive the Banger powered A! After a tuning session and a few trips to the local hardware store and having a new end crimped to a fuel line, It is drive-able! Today was the first time I have driven the car without stumbling, falling on it's face, backfiring, etc... Will it need refining? Possibly. Is it fast? Well having never driven a stock Model A, I can't say. It's is okay for around town and possibly to and from work. I am planning on a GPS recorded run tomorrow on a long, straight, flat patch of road (Rosamond Bvd) over the lakebed on Edwards AFB. No matter what happens there I am giddy to have it back up and running and not a nuisance to other drivers. Now onto non engine related changes, (Chop Top, bumper and fender removal, etc...) but that's for another thread.
     
  18. Well, Had it up to verified 65 on the flat road entrance to Edwards AFB. It had more but I was okay with that. At 60 it was quite comfortable and I'll be fine with that for the commute occasionally to and from work. I need some wheel time to iron out my shifting style and shift points.

    We use to make a fuel pump lever to adapt a high volume Big block Chevy fuel pump to a big block Ford. We used 1095 steel and had them heat treated and parkerized. The 1095 steel developed a hard skin but the core doesn't get brittle.

    I would, yes. You should probably inspect/compare all the internals , check that the springs are the same or similar, I think that is what decides the pump pressure. However as I said , I would just swap the levers and try it....it will either work or not...if pressure is to high look further.... I know on some cars the thickness of the gasket makes a big difference on the leverage and therefore pump pressure. Thicker gasket shortens effective stroke and lowers pressure..I am talking about a 1/4 inch thick insulator gasket as opposed to a paper gasket..

    I think those Moly steels would be a PITA ,they need to be annealed , or at least normalised to be machined , then if you want to harden the whole thing or part of it for wear resistance, it will have to be tempered following the hardening...temperatures and processes are critical to avoid embrittlement.... The 1090 Crazydaddyo suggested is much easier to harden and will still have high strength without being brittle...far fewer critical processes to get to the end goal.

    What is the easy way to harden for the "shade tree mechanic". Can you school me on this, since hardening metals can be pretty involved. Thanks.

    Jerseyboy why make them out of 3 pcs. ?
    Ford stamped them out by the 1000s almost made sense. Why not make them out of a chunk of tool steel? I know you like to tinker but if you need pump parts stop by I have some good cores
