Like this one....FAB32 built this for my rusty Triumph.....it's PERFECT!!!......beam axle....40 ford brakes....steering still operable so it can be adjusted for proper tracking and also adjustable toe-in. Of course 16" wheels with semi-bald, weather checked OEM bias plys. Gold chainer....nope......rusty chainer fo sho!!!!!
Very neat.....are the brakes functional, ala surge brake??? Doesn't nned to be, seeing it's a single axle and light, but would be cool..... Reminds me of Burt Munro.....
No function on the brakes.....and I told Frank I wanted it built with a log on one axle....maybe with a metal skid plate for bitchin sparks...
How are you locking the steering out? Without seeing any details... that looks scary as shit to me! But I assume if you've got that nice machinery around it, it's probably safe.
How about some nice logging chain for tiedowns??? Here's a pic of the anchor point on the steering...
Nice. Looks better than the RAGS (!) I've seen some people use to lock out the steering on similar trailers.. If I didn't already mention it, it looks great behind your coupe..
I like it, by the title i thought this was gonna turn into a thread bashing the starter of it for posting a pic of his new $20K car hauler. I really like the bike though. got any more pics of it?
Oh well yeah! It doesn't get any better than that set up right there! Wow, how 'bout some more pics of both. Thanks for sharing.
Since I'm not being run out of town on a rail I'll add a little . Everything used to build it was laying around outside my shop in the weather with the exception of the main channel. I had a piece of channel that was out of a 100 year old bridge that I helped tear down when I was an Ironworker but it has somehow gotten misplaced so I had to use a piece of "new" for this build. The axle and wishbone are '32 Ford turned around backward and held in place by the stock ball and socket (had to use something that was '32 or it just wouldn't be right). The spindles and brakes are out of my old '40 coupe and will be replacd with just hubs when Hatch and I can get out to an old secret stash he knows about and liberate a pair. The wheels and tires are off my '48 F1 which is now sitting up on jack stands I was going to make provisions for a hardwood beam with skidplate to use as a spare tire (ala Burt Munro) but ran out of time trying to get it finished for Billetproof. We might still do that (I've never been opposed to wasting time) There is still some finish work to be done but it can wait until he has a chance to take on some 18 wheelers at 80MPH so we know the basic design is solid. Unfortunately I won't be able to accompany him on the shakedown cruise but I promised to keep the CB tuned into the ambulance channel and be at the hospital if things don't go as planned. Frank
Well...the road test was a success.....pulls like it isn't even there. I hope it pulls as nice with the log in place.
I just looked in the garage - I've got everything there except a tie rod...perfect to pull my old WL flathead behind my '40 coupe! Might even dress it up with '36 Ford wheelcover fenders too!
Oh man, that is cool! Would love to see more pics of the bike too. How the hell does one man have such cool toys? I'm gonna start calling you Doc, when you buying a rail and one of Plowboys cool rides!! Cheers, Doc Watson.
Kewl!!! Just next Saturday I'm gonna check for an early axle to build something similar. I've always wanted to build a bike trailer but this is such a cool idea. I just don't have the old bike to go with it. Both my bike and my wife's bike are modern bikes.
Just be careful with it when towing. I've seen small trailers like that jumping around, dancing from wheel to wheel - pulling one wheel at a time OFF the ground as it was towed behind a truck. I'd just hate to see any damage to either of those awesome rides!
Very nice. Fits in with the coupe quite well. I especially like the rear tie-down anchors. The red gizmo on the side rear is the toolbox? If you run lower tire pressures it won't bounce around too much. I used to use my bother-in-laws three ramp solid axle trailer and towing it empty, it would bounce all over the place till we let some air out of the tires. I'd like to see some pics of the coupe's trailer hitch and how it ties into the frame if you have them.
