I did this with my forty sedan when I got it and it was cool to watch the progress unfold, so I am starting a new thread. Hopefully over the next few (or ten) months this will go from a pile of rusty parts into a running driving 31 model A roadster. Or as Flash is fond of saying "Soon the streets will know true fear!" Heres what I got so far. 56 Olds motor with stock auto trans, Deuce frame, 39 Wheels w/ bias plys, Model A front crossmember, 40 Rear, 32 big beam axle and early spindles. What I don't have could fill a book.
This may end up being an annual update at this rate but I've been spending more time on the car than the computer. Quick progress report. Body is together, doors open and close. Subrails and floors are in, patch panels are in. I switched to a five speed set up behind the Olds and Ive even done some painting although I dont have pics of that. Heres a few for what they're worth.
Car looks very traditional, the front shocks will kill your otherwise spot on traditional approach...
I love it man! Keep posting plz. I am almost home from a 15 monther in the sand box. Ill be starting my 29 project and posting also. Keep up the good work.
A real Hotrod. Front shocks are fine only difference was in the old days they were covered & ran Ford PU mounts.
Like I said I got some stuff painted and assembled. Getting the ebrake to work took a little engineering but it seems to work good now. Body's going back on the chassis soon, I hope.
Back working all the time so progress might slow down but I'm still optimistic that I'll drive it this year. Body's on the frame and I working out some final fit issues. Made the generator bracket and painted the firewall.
Someone better than me at taking pictures stopped by the other day. Not much along the way of progress but a better picture none the less.
Update time. I have heard the motor run and my blood is starting to really pump. The throttle linkage is done and I have run the fuel lines and splitter etc. I need to order more parts and there is still alot to do but here are some fresh pictures.
Ive been busy working on the car still although I need to do things three times to accomplish a single goal. I got the exhaust done. It actually came out pretty good. I used smithy mufflers, a ten foot stick of 2" tubing and a pair of swap meet tail pipes I got for ten bucks supplied all the bends. In all I think I spent 100 bucks on the exhaust. Not too bad.
The car is almost wired, I made a column drop, got the generator rebuilt, figured out why the brakes weren't working, redid my crap clutch linkage and actually heard it run! Now I'm trying to figure out how to make it run better. Too bad I'll be driving out to Utah all next week with my buddies!
Update time. I just lost the five paragraph post I typed up. It was full of colorful descriptions and interesting insights and I don't have the energy to retype it. Whats been done: Wiring Diagnose repair carb problem Replace junk transmission TEST DRIVE! What needs to be done before I drive it again Diagnose repair overheating Diagnose repair poor steering This is all a technicallity though because the roadster made it to the car show last week!! I just got the radiator back from the shop and I am headed to the garage this weekend for more fun.
Doood where were you on Saturday. While there was no shortage of profanity I felt like it could have been much more vulgar if only you were there to contribute..
