The Ford Model A Town Delivery: One Odd Rod.

The Ford Model A Town Delivery: One Odd Rod.

Ryan’s post on The Jewel got me thinking about successful Model A Sedan Hot Rods that have been built over the years… There have also been a number of pretty bitchin’ ’29-’31 Sedan Deliveries built as well. Then I started to research all the weird commercial bodies that Ford offered in the Model A (and AA) series, discovering one of the most beautiful oddballs in my humble opinion: The 1930-31 Model A Town Car Sedan Delivery by Briggs. This ‘Type-295-A’ model was the most expensive and luxurious of the light delivery truck line, featuring a slanted windshield and arched roofline. As the Ford sales literature summed up, “Unquestionably the highest class body that has ever been available in the small car delivery field.” Truth be told, it was a quirky, ill-received model based on an odd body style that had limited appeal in the luxury car field and nearly no appeal to commercial vehicle buyers of this buttoned-down era. So this leads me to my next question; is it just me, or would this make a really cool, different Model A hot rod? It makes the B-400 look downright common. Honestly, Have you *ever* even seen a Town Car Sedan Delivery in person, let alone a modified one?  Sure, you’ll get sunburn driving to car events while your poor kids sit in the windowless tomb behind you… But nobody else will have one at the show!
