  4. Hey newbie, read the rules! :D

Rule # 4 We cover traditional '65 and older American cars only.

I'm just messing with you Boss, you make the rules, you can break them.

That is a cool car. HRP

There is a competitor who brings one in fuel race trim to Bonneville and uses a Mercedes taxi cab derived engine in it. Set a record at 190. I guarantee one trip to the salt will start the reaction of salt, aluminum, steel, and cast iron.
I feel automobiles are automobiles and you should do with them what you like. I will never understand the price tags some reach.

Balls... I think he just ran out of fucks and was frustrated with a bad paint job. I've always wondered if he left his other SL's stock though...

I have an acquaintance of sorts that has one of the new SL's in white. I've begged him repeatedly to flame it.

    I remember seeing it,
It had a CHROME '40 Ford steering wheel !!!

I love '40's But NOT that one.
As I age, I can appreciate it now, It has certainly held up.
    Is he still alive?

I remember seeing the 40 coupe in a rod Magazine back in the 70's. I think It was red at the time and really great looking. Later version seem to give it more of a hot rod look.
    That guy had some balls.............

Cool. Earl would have probably made a good HAMBer. He definitely did it his way.

  23. It's no worse than the Gull Wing that Doc Ostich had Ak Miller swap a Chrysler hemi in so he could set a record at Bonneville.

  24. There was another Earl Bruce who was a football coach at Ohio State. Is he the one you're thinking of?

Movers and Shakers! Flames, Pinstripes, and a Nerf Bar protecting the grille. Sounds like a hot rod to me!

Marianni's Restaurant, Santa Clara, CA., 1959:
Marianni's son (don't remember his first name) had a '57 Mercedes Benz Gullwing Coupe. Saw it first in its German racing silver, then a month later...It was now candy apple red, came to the same arterial stop every day across the street from Grandma's, (my Grandma's, also the hangout for about 12 no-fender-ne'er-do-wells') Young Marianni would stop, turn right, then 'roar' past Grandma's in first gear, giving us a casual 'wave'...
    Still remember that sound...
