I want to de-rust my damaged ‘33 grille before I start repairing it. I know there are threads about this but this will be a onetime task on this car so I’d like to use the most simple procedure. I need to remove the least base metal as possible. What can you tell me? Sent from my iPhone using H.A.M.B.
One of the latest hot topics is the citric acid soak. It's environmentally friendly and cheap. And should get down in all the nooks and crannies of the grille bars. https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/citric-acid.1191440/
My son uses oxalic acid mixed with water (not sure of the ratio, Google would have the info) on rust speckled chrome wheels, they come up like new again, with no effect on the chrome.. I use the budget vinegar method, it works good, but it's a bit more work involved, like having to give the metal a light scrubbing to get rid of the surface gunk..
