...A very sad day at The Hamb today... We lost a Fellow Hamber Pat (Pgan) Ganahl...Things are still evolving as to what happened but it was at a Drag Racing event in Washington...with heavy hearts we will remember Pat by his incredible legacy within the Culture...The Thread is at the link above...

I wish I'd of known there were clecos...

Some did......modern methods...good enough for an airplane good enough for Hotrod/Custom...There were holes to fill...that's what welding of rivets plug...

Sounds like there's a Hand pounded Smithing versus a alternative period method of mixed panel fabricating...Those would be the Knight Clubs...

The streamliner was built by Bob Herda. Bob would lose his life in it when a fire severed the oxygen lines to Bob's breathing mask. The fire went straight to his lungs and killed him instantly before the car even coasted to a stop.

 

Thanks for sharing that Dean, hard to like that post...a true and horrible tragedy...These deaths at these events are nasty...Condolences to those that were affected in this loss...The pictures here show the Adventure and Beauty of the Culture with danger as a force to avoid at all costs as we all have been touched by this here...May They Rest in Peace...soooooo many...

Sadly, as with so many other times in racing, someone had to loose their life to change the rules for the better. Guys had been using oxygen in cars like this for a while. There was nothing in the rules about where to mount the bottle. In Bob's case the bottle was mounted behind the engine. The big Hemi poked a rod out of the block and the schrapnel severed the supply line and caused a flash fire. SCTA then wrote a rule that the bottle must be mounted in the driver compartment.

We love louvers. Nothing like cruising down the highway and looking down that hood in front of you and seeing a hundred plus louvers. It’s says you’re driving a hot rod
