I came across what's said to be a 1937 Terraplane. If I had lots of extra space in the yard it'd be an easy decision. I don't know if I could get away with it being on the front lawn. I could stash it out of the way in the backyard, but I'm not sure about getting it. It's a four-door sedan. It's missing the hood, headlights, and the waterfall grille. I'm not the kind of person that wants to spend $1500 on a grille. I've learned that it has hydraulic brakes. I wonder if finding good drums is difficult. Anyone have thoughts on Hudson forums?
I was on the HET forum for a while, when I had a hudson. Like any other small marque, the folks who are interested in them are kind of "different", so spend some time reading up on how they see the world, before you start posting your own wild ideas Looks like a neat car, but I'd pass on it, because of so much missing.
I had a 51 Hornet a couple years ago https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/doing-a-ring-job-the-old-way.1150563/ https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/the-hudson-adventure.1160465/
$1500 for a grille seems like a lot right now, but if you had the rest of the car finished, it might not seem like a bad idea. Start building the damn thing. Looks like a great start.
Does not sound like you are in love with the car, and as Squirrel said it is missing too many pieces. Building it would have to be a labor of love, as it would be unlikely to ever break even if you ever had to/wanted to sell.
Yes, the grille parts are the money on that car. Clean and straight easily $1500. And possibly more! There was some discussion on here about using the steering box on an early Ford. As well as the unique front axle assembly. Basically there is not much use for what is left there to build it. It is a 8 cyl. They were very smooth running cars.
Well first thing is this is not a Terraplane, its a 1937 Hudson Eight sedan. These have a longer wheelbase for the 8 cylinder to fit. The Hudson Eight and the Terraplane look very similar but the grilles are different. The major difference is that all 1937 Terraplanes were six cylinder only. Eights were only in the Hudson line. This is a rare car as they didn't make many Hudson Eights in 1937.
