This is a great read on Henry Ford and Fordlandia. Started off with a swindle and only got worse from there.
It doesn't look abandoned just utilized differently, much too neat for a jungle environment, the book looks interesting
Indeed- The locals still use the water tower (built in Detroit and shipped to Brazil) and some of the structures.
Ford actually built two towns in the Brazilian jungle, Fordlandia and later Belterra. I've actaully been to Belterra. Very interesting and weird, a little midwest-styled town plunked into the Amazon rain forest, full of folks living their lives. Sadly, not a single vintage car part to be found, but some darn good barbeque.
Here's a pic of a Model T in the rain forest1 I saw something on tv along time ago of a plant in the rain forest and there were remnants of model t's. I can't remember what show it was.
I'm no hippy, but it looks like the perfect location for a commune. Just a town of people living a vintage lifestyle at a slower pace.
Hmmm, some parts of that video look like really good computer generated animation. But I'd like to think that Fordlandia moulders on.
