Fordlandia: A Hot Rod Amusement Park?

Fordlandia: A Hot Rod Amusement Park?

I’m sure you’ve read the stories about ‘Fordlandia’, Henry Ford’s failed attempt to build a massive rubber production facility deep in the Amazon rainforest. It was a monumental failure in every sense of the word. The workers hated it, the rubber trees were fraught with disease, and the operation hemorrhaged millions of dollars while producing a minimal amount of rubber. When Ford finally threw in the towel and left Brazil in 1945, they simply walked away from the whole operation, lock, stock & barrel. Besides the abandoned main factories there was also a hospital, a workshop, American living quarters, a water tower and a sawmill… And 76 years later, the entire facility is still sitting there, complete and fairly intact. I recently found this drone footage below, and pondered what I would do with this massive space if it was mine? Movie set for Tropic Thunder 2? Perhaps a massive Farmers Market? Or could it make a cool car museum? Maybe the world’s first hot rod-themed amusement park. Who’s in? Just a 5,000 mile flight away…
