Very nice proportions !! That may just be the nicest chopped more door shoebox I have ever seen. I love the top of the back doors nice work!
I also helped Spanish Fly on here chop his 4dr P-15. He was lucky enough to score a donor roof, but we still had to figure out a lot of stuff on his, but it is do able. Heres a link to his thread http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=307886&highlight=unorthodox
Thank you guys for all of ur input Ill post up some pics and if anyone wants to do a quick photo chop I'd be more than appreciative. I'll do a build thread if I decide to put her under the knife.
i say go for it, i was thinking about chopping my 53 Cranbrook but i want to keep my wing windows and the amount of work i would have to do for even a mild chop wouldn't be worth it, but your car i see some good lines to be able to do it.
my 51 Merc /Monarch is a 4 door chopped with a 50 back window, hes just finishing up my doors(the BF) every one whos seen it LOVES it! As a matter of fact,we have a guy bringing us his 4 door merc today for a chop!If its done right it looks amazing!ill update my pics for you non believers soon enough...we are body swapping it onto a 84 buick soon!
A chopped more door can look just as kool as a chopped 2dr so i say do it but remeber its alot of work to chop a more door as it has 2 more doors to play with and the rear window areas are more tricky to get to flow out.
If it's just going to be a fair weather cruiser, you could always loose the top all together. Here is my old 49 Dodge, roof wacked off, windsheild chopped 6''.
mine (51 Monarch)as it sits today......its in wait for the body swap..where it will be lowered on the 84 Buick frame...see my pictures..... it has a 50 back window...and will get a 49 dash
I was considering to go from 4door to Chopped hardtop 4 door on my 53 cranbook, just as the merc on the picture... Do you know more about it? About how to add some strenght to the frame, body? How to make the glasses open? Somebody already done it? Thx!
I know these arent the best examples.. but here are 3 Ive done. I know the black and orange one will get roasted.. but It is what it is and the customer loves it still.
I'll post mine again. The guy that did it did over 40 cars and said mine was one of the easist he ever did. Two inchs made a big difference.
my first job scanning... looks like I cut the roof off.... this was in hot rod magazine custom cars annual vol.2 #2. does it still have those crazy swivel buckets? ... and have you posted a thread on it , or more pics? I have always liked that car, since I first saw the article in 84!
Saw a chopped '51 Merc moredoor at the KKOA show in Ft Smith years ago---done by the first owner and was his first attempt. The back doors were "sculptured" to fit around the cruiser skirts. When I read this thread intro that was the first image in my mind---chop it.
I think they look great! You can see the chop on my build thread http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=525131 on page 19 and 20. Here are a few pics.
