Never did a Ford L6 but the Mopars I've done, I've used the head bolts. Seemed about the easiest way to balance hings out.
I used the bolt holes for the cylinder head with the head off. One at each opposite end worked well for me.
An old trick is to take a couple of discarded spark plugs and weld rings on them. Thread into the front and back plug holes connect with a chain and lift on that.
