Not to hijack the thread, but look at the name on the door of "The Canuck" that @phartman posted. That's one of Dale Armstrong's early efforts when he was just a young drag racer from Canada. Okay, back to The Dog.
The DEEP truss side rail construction on that trailer is something I've been thinking about for some time, but not when I was a mere lad of 17. My goals were a narrow trailer with clearance to open doors, and the possibility of making a really strong trailer out of RMC or even EMT conduit. https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/6/6b/Pullman_sleeping_car_circa_1860s.JPG https://photos.classiccars.com/cc-t...84115-1915-rolls-royce-silver-ghost-thumb.jpg
A neighbor of mine in Florida still has this one-piece welded steel flip top 'Corvair' funny car. He claims his was the first one. His last name is 'Donahoe'.
Yes, there was a Donahue- Mark- who did some racing with an interesting roofless car- 917 Porsche. Not a Corvair, not on the 1320.
What were You doing at that age? Automotively, I would pale in comparison to this! It would be interesting to see what Mr. Heeter did later in life. Thanks, Joey. P.S. The “topless” era sure added spice to Funny car racing, Great stuff!!
Mr. Heeter did at age 16 what most of us never will do. He had an idea / dream, and he fulfilled it. Congratulations to him.
The new “HAMB Friendly” includes some strange crap. This is a new low. It’s ugly, poorly engineered, unsafe and I bet it was slow. I don’t get it. Belongs in O’ Skool Rodz.
I'm interested in the other two rods he built, shown flanking that funny car! As noted, a 16 year old built it, and it's still around!
