Please, no s^&t storm. I have what I believe is a stock 400 sbc, performer manifold, block hugger headers, HEI Turbo 350 I have had good luck with the Edelbrock in the past. would A 750 be too much carb? Just for the sake of no argument I WILL be using an edelbrock.
I run a 600 Edelbrock on a .30 over 350, been on for 15 years or so, never had any problems, and good performance.
If you'll be spending most of your driving at WOT that 750 will be great. If the majority is normal driving a smaller carb will suit you better. I really like this carb http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=756632 , but I haven't reached a final conclusion yet. Very impressed so far
I had a 400 built by Racing Head Service (Comp Cams ) and they used a 600 Edelbrock. Engine was OUTSTANDING
I have run a 750 Edelbrock on a warmed over 350 chevy and it ran great. I got the manual choke model and then added electric choke. I'm sorry I don't have the number right now. Several year later I put a 600 on it and I had to rejet it richer to get the same performance of the 750. by the way, the 750 would knock down 20 mpg at speed limit.
400's don't breath that hard. If you want throttle response and decent mileage, I'd go for the 600 (which I believe is technically a 625)....the 750 is unnecessary.
Everyone above is correct. The car would run fine with a 600cfm carb. I calculated at a maximum rpm I would run it to, and considered future upgrades. If its staying bone stock and staying below 5000 rpm yeah a 750 is a little big.
I have a 350 .030 over, headers, intake, and am running an edlebrock 600 leaned out as much as I safely can. I have run up to 850's on a small block, but you need a really go ignition, not to mention compression. Your gonna burn rich, but will clear out at higher rpms....
