Merc Posse: please post up your pics on 51 merc custom tail light approaches. Yeah I've searched but I am still stuck on what to run on my 51 Merc. Rikster if you are watching, I'd appreciate your input also. Anyone have pics of 54 merc tail lights w/the chrome bezel on a 51? Thanks fellas.
forgot to say i think it looked way better without the blue dots, but one got broken and only had a pair with dots to replace
Nice idea glassguy; that is a set that I never thought of, and they actually flow quite well. Keep em coming fellas.
Kustom made mine. I used a 53 Caddy bumper and cut out the top part of the bumper. Bolted 48 Chevy tailights (including the bezels) on the back side. Covered it with thin red plexiglass. Used Renee's hair dryer so they would contour to the bumper. Easy.... It is fun to try to come up with something different.... Go through old magazines and look for different makes and models. You will know it when ya see it... Happy Trails, Mick
54 Merc taillights are hard to do, due to the fact that they are not as wide as the 51 quarterpanel. I put them in my build but I sliced them at the top and bottom, heated them and opened them up to match the 51 fins. Did a tech on it. Check it out here..... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=308360
Thanks Ether, and Bad Bob and RPW, and Fordy, and PSJ (thats ProStockJohn), and SKK (straykatkustoms). Keep em coming. Rikster will be on this any day now. Bad Bob, I know you got more in your vast archives!
Wow, Matt the work looks great! What did you use for the lenses? Was that what the car had originally?
Now that my friend is AWESOME!!!! How bout a little "how to".....come on, we're all family here. Your secrets are safe with us!!! I always liked the DeSoto taillight treatment Abone did on his 51'
