I realized I would be terrible at doing a build thread as 1. I jump around alot, work on one area, then move to another to keep my interest up, may be months till I go back to finish the first area. 2. I get involved working and do not take any pictures, 3 My work space is a mess, I would be too ashamed to show it.

Could not say it better myself.
I think its difficult to respond on threads with comments that add something.
My plan was to do my build in 3-5 year and are now at 7.
After some time with silence in my thread i hope to do some progress again soon.

Let's see if we get a bunch of old build threads come up. :)

I'm relatively new to the HAMB (1 1/2 years) and even newer at posting. I've been trying to keep up with what I'm doing, but sometimes it seems like the stuff I post is not worth posting, things like buying an alternator and brackets. And I can go for weeks and feel like nothing has been accomplished. Then lo and behold I have a good day or two in the garage and it seems like all the little things that I've been puttering around with come together and it looks like I did something!

And I like all comments, no matter what the nature of the comments, as it shows that someone is still watching.

I started a build thread on the car in my avatar. I’m keeping it traditional with the exception of the trans/open driveline suspension mods, so when I got to that area I thought it best to leave that part out. Other priorities got in the way, and I’ve been stalled out for several months. Now I can’t even find the thread. o_O:D

I'm still plugging away at it. Way I see it, if no one really sees my stuff now; chances are, at a later stage some one might resurrect it and by then, it will be a complete build that might be of help to some one. It happens all the time - some one will dig up some dead thread that is simply amazing and because it is complete, it makes for great reading for a few hours.

I've started several build threads, but with many of them, the build was acceptable back then, but is no longer apolitical. Any update would result in the thread going away completely.

I can't even post pictures of my latest build because the wheels are off topic, no one makes wheels apocopate to this site for that suspension. Why should I bother with a build thread?

Then we add the HAMB specialists that have never posted any kind of build thread. They like to be critical of what may have been done, always condemning what they think isn't "done right", though they appear to have no experience at building anything.. Why feed the trolls?

Then there are the real builders, the guys that really do things to perfection, a level I'll never reach, nor maybe one I may ever feel a need to reach. I build drivers on a budget, not show rods. When anything I could build doesn't come near their quality, its discouraging at best. Why would I want to open myself up for comparison against the great builders?

Making a build thread is a bunch of time consuming work in addition to the actual build. I will take my efforts to places where I might be able to help someone else move their project along, and that place isn't here. Gene

Thanks for everybody's feedback and insight. I started this thread because some of the threads I've subscribed to just seemed to stop. to fizzle out. Its like reading a good book or watching an action flick and not knowing how it ended.

As far as my own ongoing builds, by trying to periodically post something interesting about my project I find it keeps me motivated to continue. as sporadic as progress may be.

Another rant, tangential to this one, is about folks who seek advice to a problem they have. The H.A.M.B. offers up several suggestions for a solution and then...nada. No reply that their problem is solved, which solution(s) they tried, what worked, what didn't or if they even tried any of the advice. I would like to know if any of the advice was beneficial.

  14. Sorry guys,,,,time does get away for one reason or another .

I was in the middle of building my Flathead engine,,,,and my Desoto .
They both got stopped for some time .
Money was an element that was involved,,,,,,although not entirely .

2019 was doing good,,,,,then in 2020 things really got out of hand I guess,,,,LoL .

Well,,,,,,2021 started on a different note entirely ,,,,,,wasn’t feeling good at all .
Got diagnosed with cancer,,,,,had surgery,,,,,,finished my chemotherapy,,,,,just got finished with my radiation ,,,,,,now getting my legs and back strong again,,,,,at least where I can walk,,,,LoL .
Took everything extra I had saved just to pay the deductibles,,,,,and out of pockets .
Thank the Lord I had insurance,,,,,man,,,,,it was expensive .

I understand the man saying he was worth more dead than alive,,,,LoL .

    Im fine,,,,,no crying for me,,,understand !!!

But,,,on a very positive note ,,,,,,I recently ordered my pistons for my Flathead,,,,,maybe soon I can finish the block machine work and have the bottom end together.

And,,,,,on my Desoto ,,,,,I have just shipped my cam to be reground,,,,,it should be back in a few weeks .
I have been on it for some time,,,,I have maybe a 100 pics of it so far,,,,,basic block work,,,,crank work,,,,complete rocker system build up .
When I get my cam done,,,,I will have all the stuff for the short block .

Right now,,,I guess I’m in limbo over the money at this time .
No matter really,,,,,I can’t afford a chassis now anyway,,,,,all the extra cash is gone .

Lol,,,,,what does it really matter anyway,,,,it’s all just a day dream of mine .
I will recover and everything will be fine,,,,I’m still alive and my family is good.
    What else really matters ?

I started my build thread 4 years ago. Asked Paul to add it to the list. He says it isn`t a build thread yet. Still gathering parts. So I guess I`ll update it tonight. I do have a guy working on a running board. One piece at a time. I don`t weld. To post pic`s I have to drive 30 miles to a photo center to have pic`s made from my camera. Then scan them to the computer. This is a traditional site.

put a link up please, or perhaps bump it to the top occasionally, will probably get more responses, as all threads/posts get lost pretty quickly.
Some on here also put a link in their signature line, - so they probably get more views, comments and watchers by doing that.
and we all love the build threads………

It moves to the top every time it's updated, once or twice a week on average lately.

I have 3 build threads going right now, and 2 have been sidelined for over a year. However, I tend to roll the current fabrication work, I am doing into a couple of them, as I feel it might be if interest.

Started a 29 dodge victory six, then, my family doc went AHHH, then heart doc went AHHH, then off to a cardiogram, you know, where the good looking nurse shaves your uncooperative genitals, then a doc shoves a camera up your leg? Yeah, that. THEN, I got a pulmonary embolism from the camera job, a clot in my right lung, so the heart valve thing got put back at least three months. Jan 4 is CT scan day again, maybe surgery. Then two months of joining the zipper club, so, no build stuff this winter. (sigh).

It was seven years from the time I posted my build until it was actually on the road (almost 7 years). I did it mostly for myself to be able to go back and look which is good because there was about 3-4 people that followed it anyway. (it wasn't a Chevy)

I had to go outside the HAMB to find answers to the problems I had with my starter and Muncie end bearing. The starter issue was pretty obscure and while I did get the transmission sorted I still don't really know the facts surrounding it.

I'll still update when I get around to the interior.

The Hamb is way different than any other car related site I've been on. I go on ClassicOldsmobile, Ford Truck Enthusiasts, Ford Truck Zone and all those sites are very slow compared to the Hamb. I know people will ask a question and not check back for a couple days, and that is OK on the other sites, In fact you may not get a reply for a couple weeks. But on here if you ask a question and wait a week or so you will find guys in a argument over the solution to your problem, and cussing you out for not responding back soon enough. That actually is all good... Now the guys who never come back after asking a question- now that is rude, for sure and yes there is a lot of them. I also question why some guys start a great detailed thread with lots of pics and just stop.

  28. I guess I just don’t get wound up about people who don’t come back after asking a question or people who don’t complete a build thread…it is the internet.

It's one of my pet peeves too! People start a build thread, and I get interested, so I add it to my watch list. Then it goes dead with no explanation. At least come back and tell us why!
