I read through that when they first posted it and immediately fell in love with that truck. Those Ford roadster pickups just look so awesome rodded. Along with @Dean Lowe's this thing is tops on my list. Everything about it in this picture is spot on. And the rear view...damn this thing sits nice!
KUSTOMRAMA is the keeper of the flame, I have found so many interesting features from the past on the site. Their archives are a great source of inspiration along with the information found here there is no reason a young guy or a old fart for that mater can't be armed with enough visual images of how a traditional hot rod or custom should look and then apply that to their build. That was a great read, thank you. What I find neat is most of us here are currently trying to mimic this. Simple chassis and drivetrain with help from friends and coworkers. Finishing the project and enjoying it. A clear window to how it really was.
Awesome Hotrod and documentation at Kustomrama, also a great trustworthy resource and compliment to The Hamb...Thanks for sharing @Ryan
I love how the story starts with some buddies getting together and BUILDING a GARAGE. From “scraps” no less. I ❤️ The NW.
Thanks a lot, @Ryan and everyone else. I'm glad you liked the story. We were basically raised and educated on the HAMB, so you will find a lot of HAMB in the DNA of Kustomrama I'm glad you liked the story. Craig Pettman was instrumental when it comes to putting that story together and I was blown away by Dan's great photos. The people, the car, the story! Amazing. Be sure to also check out the great photos Dan shot of his buddy Fred Merkley's Model A Roadster: https://kustomrama.com/wiki/Fred_Merkley's_Roadster This reminds me that I have to do a featured story on Fred's roadster as well
I talked with Craig Pettman today, we he live in the same town and he has done extensive research on both the Dan Whittenberg and the Fred Merkley Roadsters. He has found the garage that both cars were built in, and coincidentally I rented that garage when they moved out in 1962 and started my 32 Ford Roadster addiction. Small world.
I think yours had a more Street/Strip career as opposed to this being more a Street based Hotrod...They both wore the period well...I like the Moons Look with the Wife pic...a great Hotrod story, comradery, BC. Can...they had some cool history there...Be Careful down there Hotrodder...
This was where they sourced parts as mentioned once or twice in the story...I was thinking there was a connection to Cal Morrow but I don't think so however Cal may certainly have got parts here also... I suspect it stood for Caifornia/Vancouver...
