    I suppose it depends on what you mean by 'work'. If work is taken to mean will be (kinda) accurate and remain that way following the QC gears being changed without the need for changing speedometer drives in the gearbox, or having some kind of adjustable mechanical conversion device (which may or may not exist), the answer must surely be an electronic speedometer with a gps sensor.

    That's what I have and why I have it in my as yet untested project. I couldn't fathom another way!

    Now, whether the gears will ever be changed is another matter, or indeed thread!

  6. Though not traditional, X2 on the GPS speedo. Put one in 4x4 truck with oversized tires. Summit sourced, around $330 total: electronic gauge, chrome cup, and sensor. Dead nuts accurate.

  7. I have a 3-set of Summit 2 5/8" gauges in my Ford, they work well and look great at night.

  8. In the coup I have a flatty with a t5... and I am running a vintage SW 160mph mechanical speedo... I bought a set of driven gears for the T5 gear ratio and my current tire height. Did the calculation and picked the right gear and put it in... very simple.
    Another, very inexpensive option would be to download the Ulysee Speedometer app (I think its $0.99)
    I have a USB charger and a magnetic mount in my car as I use my phone for GPS and other things when I am traveling.
    This app works great has a bunch of features and did I mention its 99 cents

    I'm trying to collect old steward warner gauges when I go to swap meets and on line. I've had pretty good luck finding them in various places and good prices. I lucked out about a year ago when I went to a garage sale and came across an engine turned panel with a full set of these gauges from the sixties. I began talking to the guy selling them and found out his dad was a locally famous drag racer and car painter in the early days who had a 34 coupe and turned out I knew his dad from local car shows. Because I knew his dad and because of the car I was putting them in he sold me the whole panel full of gauges for five bucks. It was then I heard his dad had passed that winter. His dad was known for painting cars with lacquer paint while smoking cigars and had died of lung cancer.

    With a quick change? I’d get an electric speedo that you like and use a gps sending unit. Then it’s always correct regaurdles of gear change

  18. I have a set of So Cal gauges in my coupe now but the curved lenses, red and white football and 200 MPH speedo kinda puts me off. I bought a brand new [discontinued] set of Classic Mooneyes gauges...not the cheezy ones made by Mooneyes but real live American made Classic units.... 34oilpressurecruise.jpg

    QC,? do you change the gear set from time too time or stay with same{ Ya I know QC is designed for using def gears}
    There is some 12 volt speed-o's that run off a magnet on drive shaft,so that type has to be set for a gear n tire set/same for standard rears. Model A speed-o ran off front hub from cable drive.>>>but stock "A" speed-o can be run of a newer tranny( 1960s standard shift or auto with tailshaft cable drive to speed-o=that's how I have my own working in my 1928 "A"/I spliced a 57 Ford speedo cable to "A" speed-o an it came out only off by 2 mph. with my 3.0 rear and hot rod tires on my rod.
    Or you can just use the GPS in your phone now days for speed-o too.

    The guages I have used in the passed were what I could find free back then,best was out of 50s Studys{ SW} but have replace with new as broke. Even the 2 black rims,have once again been replaced by chrome rims now. This rod has been repaired more then just a few times,I first built it,in 1959. Kept the same look n color always.

    @DDenny , good luck with your new stupid warner gauges, they look nice for sure . I have had two speedos go bad , they replaced the first one . I sent the second to an instrument specialist and he said after 1500 miles it was just plain worn out junk . Well the speedo still reads but odo is not. I think several other HAMBers reported the same.

    Is that a ribbed aluminum oil filter housing repurposed as an insulated cup holder? Genius!
