I've been searching the archives for the best tyre combo for a 36. The pictures are mainly blanked due to Photobucket changing the way they do business. What I want is pictures of either 36 cabriolet or coupes with tyre sizes....I made a big( expensive ) mistake a couple of years ago when I bought a set of the Coker radials that look like bias ply tyres.for my 40 Standard coupe....I went too big on the rears (7.5") and spoilt things...way too big and almost impossible to get them under the arches. So, I thought that I might be able select the correct ones this time by seeing how they look before laying out any money.
Check out the thread by hotrodprimer. This will fix your problem. https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum...t-red-xs-and-it-wont-cost-you-a-dime.1083748/
Big and little's rims 16x5 ,tires front 55ox16 and back 750x16. The brand Firestone or any other black wall brand you like.
I have Firestone 8.20-15 on 6" wheels for the rear along with 5.60-15 on 5-1/2" wheels front. If you are looking at radials , no picture; but Classic 165/80r15 & General 215/85r16 work after a fashion.
Thanks ....a couple of nice looking coupes there...great stance and tyre/arch fit.Is the top one Amory Green by any chance?
Hi Nigel, I have 6.00 x 16 Firestones all round on the 35, (dropped axle on the front, de arched leaf on the back) but having skirts and riding at least level / slight rear rake may not be your thing! I did try a pair of 7.00 x 16 on a stock spring on the rear when I was building the car and they filled the wheel well nicely. Good luck.
Here's another more traditional look; my kid's '36 back in '61, picture taken by the original builder. Matching tires front and rear and not very low by today's norms.
Hi Gordon,I've done similar mods, albeit on 36 and 40 coupes, in the past....I can still feel the pain of spending the whole Saturday getting the old shackle bushes out while lying on my back.....not too keen to visit that again...but then again, I never seem to learn lol.Have you any shots of your cab without the skirts and any with the 7" tyre set up?
Mine came with 6.00x16 front 6.50x16 rear After converting to hydraulic brakes I installed a reversed eye front spring with a 4 inch dropped axle. Changed the tires to 5.50x16 front and 7.00x16 rear, mounted on 40 Ford wheels. Sent by homing pigeon
