    1956 Belair sedan straight axle gasser
    1957 Belair hardtop straight axle gasser
    I've been hooked on hotrods ever since I saw a black 55 Chevy straight axle gasser and a Green 69 GTX drag raced right by me at the interaction of 103rd and Cicero. What an impression left on a 13 year old kid. I said to myself – “I gotta get one of those”.

    To date, the ones that got away;

    Around 1975 – 1957 Chevy 4 dr – ran, 6 cyl, 3 speed and very complete $75
    Around 1976 – 1955 Chevy 2 dr sedan – primer grey, straight axle, 396, 4 speed, not running and sitting behind a gas station on Archer Rd $200
    Around 1977 – 1955 Chevy 2 dr sedan – straight axle gasser, ½ the car was fiberglass, drag race setup, no engine, purple in Burbank $175
    Around 1979 – 1969 GTX Red 440 4 speed, only problem was one of the heads leaked oil, $300
    Around 1980 – 1957 Chevy convertible, 283, purple also – all there but in a million pieces – Joliet $500
    Around 1981 – 1957 Chevy black hardtop – running, Vette 327 4 speed, nice shape - $1200
    Around 1982 - 1966 Ford 7 liter black w/red interior convertible – 427 4 speed all original, drivable but pretty dented up - $30

    Funny how you don’t forget these things. I didn’t (or could not of) buy any of these gems for the old man wouldn’t allow any cars in the drive way that leaked oil, didn’t run, didn’t have a title or looked like a wreck.
