I grew up in Huntington Beach California in the 60s and 70s. If you didn't like drag racing, you probably got your butt kicked or were a little girl. The coolest little girl I knew was Carol Harvel. Her brother Chris and I built models and their dad built roadsters. Between those roadsters and Carol, the Harvel house was a heaven on earth. Anyone know where these people are now?
Chris and I drag raced our bicycles endlessly down the steepest hill in town, feet curled back on that banana seat for streamlining. He had a stingray with 10 speed handle bars- a real innovator. I had a candy red stingray with a chrome sissybar that had a hangmans noose in it. That was topped-off by a slick tire at the rear. Bitchin' bike! My mom got me that bike for my 8th birthday. Bitchin' mom!
I currently illustrate older drag cars with a few tee-shirts to my name. I also have a small model airplane company which is just getting restarted. My wife Kim thinks I'm nuts for liking all the stuff I like, but backs me 100%. Period.
I have designed some bodywork for a current Nostalgia FED.
