I like machinery with real craftsmanship and character. The first airplane I ever flew in was a Great Lakes biplane, and I never lost the lust for the wind of open cockpits or the whiff of exhaust and oil. It took me 38 years to realize that I almost missed out on the opportunity to learn how to work on cars from someone who really knows: my dad, a disabled veteran who originally gave up his cars 'cause he didn't think he'd make it back. Now I'm making up for lost time by building a '31 Model A Ford speedster from the ground up with his guidance.
