Hello to all from western Oklahoma.
I have been a lurker on this site for some time. Finally registered... and now the next step.. to post my intro.
I am originally from Texas, grew up in the Rio Grande Valley in the early 70's, where the big thing was horsepower and E.T.s.
Always seemed to be "outside" the mainstream, and following my own path.
While all my buds were into Mustangs, Camaros, 'Cudas, Firebirds,ect.. and spent their weekends at the racetrack in Edinburg, I had to go against the grain.
My first ride was a 1941 Chevrolet Master Deluxe Coupe. You couldn't get an ET under 19 in that thing if you dropped it off a cliff.
Growing up with four older brothers I was under the hood of a car from the time I could get them to tolerate me hanging out in the garage asking questions.
"Low and slow was the way to go."
Life carried me to Oklahoma, and for the last 20 some odd years I have been tinkering with old trucks.
Have the usual collection of "Projects" waiting in line.
I am still "outside" the mainstream in this area. Local trends range from-
'low riders" "donks" "drifting rice racers" "pimped out late models" to the mandatory "redneck 4x4's".
I am working on a 66 Chev Short wide 4x4, and my next project is a 40 model Chev pickup.
Most of my work is resto/custom. Came here to get some education on what others are doing and how they are doing it.
Since I have been lurking I have learned a lot from the posts here.
Incredible amount of talent in members of this forum.
Plus... the direction most are taking is exactly what I grew up with... some of it all too familiar.
I look forward to meeting others in the same mental state. And I hope to meet some others in my area.
