In my family, if you couldn't change the tires and the oil, you couldn't drive it. Basic mechanical competance was a requirement. So working on cars and trucks wasn't about gettin' her pretty to go to a show or hang out with/show off to friends, it was about keeping it in working order so you could get to work on time and get the bills paid. I'm neither an auto pro nor an auto idiot- somewhere in between. I understand cars and engines and how things work, but I will be the first to tell you that I am HORRIBLE at remembering names for parts, so I often sound somewhat clueless, and then will suddenly explain how it works but with retard-o descriptions instead of actual names of things. (So go easy on me on that!) Under my father's supervision, at 16 I replaced the transmission in my first car, an old Chevy Van, and at 18, the engine in my old Bronco.
I love the badass hot rods I've gotten to see doing what I do, and I hope to one day have the time and $ to get somethin' really killer to work on (I do love the old duece trucks and would love to one day have a late 40's-early 50's Merc convertible)- in the meantime, I have a beautiful 1960 F100 with a 351M V8 that I am working on making even more beautiful-er. :)
oh, and I have been logging on to the HAMB for many years now- I just rarely actually speak up, usually to get some advice. I hadn't before because, honestly? I'm not too keen on making it known I'm around somewhere that I've read comments about my tits and so forth. I'm here to get/share info about my truck, not to discuss my body parts. Thanks. :)
