    Mine was home made and I think I drilled the holes smaller....but that is what you have....also called a 'back pressure valve' in some circles ....a cool piece for sure!!! and so glad your work top looks like a cousin to mine

    The tanks are under the cowl, that is actually a gas flap to fill the tank up.

  17. No build thread. Basics are 34 Chevy rails shortened 12 inches, front and rear Model A crossmembers, 36 Plymouth wavy axle, 40 Ford brakes, Winfield equipped A motor, B trans and A rear axle with shortened 32 driveshaft. Body is 26 or 27 T touring front half, grill is Whippet. I'm still looking for a gas tank, T round tank seems too small. Maybe Dodge brothers, Nash, Hupmobile.

    Oil Pump Question.
    I have a Pressurized B Engine with insert bearing and drilled crank. The pressurized method was “Capping the well” method shown in secrets magazine few years ago.

    I have a Burtz pump for the engine. I have modified it with an index or anti rotation pin. My question is the top flange is a complete circle without the grooves milled into it as the stock pump has. This pump has a relief valve built into it.

    I have spoken to the Burtz folks and they are reluctant to provide any info beyond how it was tested in for the Burtz application.

    I suspect that it will be ok since the grooves in the stock pump allow oil into the valley to gravity feed to the mains. Since it’s now full pressurized with a relief valve, grooves are no longer needed.

    What are your thoughts, appreciate any and all input. Thanks

    See the annotation about grooving one side of the area that was previously notched, but filled for the pressurization.It states for 'center bearing oiling'....I always notch, using a three sided file, as I can not recall a failure from too much lubrication. I know nothing about the Bertz oil pump, but I know the pumps I modify use a spacer plate and substitute V8 oil pump gears for the Model A ones. They have more than adequate volume and pressure for the application in a 'pressurized' B engine or an integral pressure relief wouldn't be necessary....so making a little additional, targeted, leak has always been prudent in my mind....
    Something to ponder on and worth what it cost you.... and let us know

    A blocks gravity feed the mains with a 'weir set up'... and oil kind of drains and rains every where....
    the B block is 'semi pressurized' on the mains from the oil galley that the A block doesn't have. The oil that passes thru the openings, at the top of the pump make their way to the openings in the valve chamber and drain out of there, fill the dipper tray to oil the rods....it is important to keep the dipper tray full with dipper rods.
    Your crank is drilled and pressurized so the dipper tray should remain in the oil pan, but I drill them out at the low point to keep the oil pump fed....
    I hope this is understandable and anyone else jump in if my thought process is askew....but this is where I have gotten to over the years of going slow....

    So if I, Understand your response. The groves are filled as part of the pump modification but Charlie puts a small notch in it as a bonus.

    No dipper rods and drip tray has holes in the low points.

    I've had trouble keeping the banger cool in my T roadster. I used a smoke machine to see that the fan is pulling air from the engine bay instead of only through the radiator. Time to build a shroud I guess. check out the video of what I found.

    That's a pretty good idea, using that smoker. Not going to lie, I jumped once or twice during that video, thinking your knuckles were getting awfully close to the fan. Haha. Probably just the camera angle, but still.

    So, for comparison, what pressures and flow rates do good stock oil pumps produce, and the same for the "lengthened-gear" stock oil pumps?

    I don't see the value of using a pump that produces more oil flow and pressure than needed, its just wasted power...
     
  28. I run a modded stock pump in my Tourer. Gives a steady 30-40 psi. Ticks over about 10psi. But a stock pump doesn’t have a pressure relief valve so I have an external one plumbed in.

    I’ve been running a Rotoshim pump in my Burtz engine. Beautiful piece of engineering. Built in pressure relief valve. I tested their original prototype.

    I’m now testing another prototype pump all the way to Romo and back. 1000km each way.

    I’ll be using a Rotoshim oil pump in my new B engine. It’s certainly a beautiful piece. I like his shocks quite a bit as well.
