    Hello,

With the weather playing some games with the whole Westcoast of the USA, sometimes, the weather pattern moves Eastward during these patterns. If it does, then the known fact of the tall mountains causes a weather pattern called “orographic rainfall.” As the front approaches the tall blockage on its pattern moving East, it starts to drop moisture and then rain down as it climbs the frontal face of the mountain ranges.

It leaves the heaviest amount of rain on the western side as it attempts to climb up the face. It still rains on the Eastern peak side and as it flows down to the level areas, dissipates somewhat. But, has the ability to start blasting the flat Midwest with some vengeance at times.

So, as it approaches the mountains near Salt Lake, what is below is Bonneville. Where the pattern plays tricks on everyone. If we think of a traveler with suitcases, as a steep hill is approaching, leaving some weight as one approaches the peak is easier to climb, while moving.

As we have seen the history of the Bonneville racers and even South at El Mirage Dry Lake in California, those hot rod folks are relentless in their mission.

"Grohs Texaco in Rivera, California ( before ‘Pico’ and ‘Rivera’ became one city in 1958) sponsored a few very nice drag cars." (By 1960, our Long Beach High School played in a championship football game against a well known High School from the city of "Pico Rivera.")

The first shot is of Grohs 32 5 window coupe photographed
(by Norm Grudem) around 1953. It featured big n’ little whitewalls, knee action shocks and some crazy twin push bars in the back. Check out the triple straight pipes (flathead, I presume) peeking out from under the frame!"

"In late 50s, Team Grohs returned with a wicked Digger powered by a front-mount blown 331 Hemi. I like the rough, hand-hammered bodywork and four wheel Moon discs to finish off the package. Doug Peterson took the color picture below and added, “I was introduced to drag racing in the flesh in the fall of 1958 when a friend and myself wandered into the pits at the old San Gabriel track while shooting mud hens in the rock quarry lake to the west."

I hope it is okay to post other peoples artwork. I couldn’t draw my way out of a wet paper bag. My pal Von Franco did this painting for me.... 2D732D41-41E8-4621-A782-D7B7851CD46C.jpeg

Leland Barnard was 9 years old when he was inspired to draw this picture of his view of the 1955 Carrera Panamericana and Ak Miller's racer..... 20210115_092012.jpg

  24. Sooo much Pontiac love this week. When I sketched mine, I had not idea it would be part of an impromptu theme.
