Everything works fine although the shifter is a bit too short... Something to hunt for at canfield swap meet... Also helecoiled the thermostat housing on intake to cure a pesky coolant leak thats been bugging me for a while.

I made a door lock knob. Because one was missing, and repops are stainless instead of aluminum.

I also made a trunk lid support, but didn't get a picture.

Got my 32 out and drove over to a club member's playhouse to see what he had in his "showroom.";)
The Desoto project got shuffled out of the back work area it looks like. I think he was off with his wife in his 48 Chrylser convertible.:)
Twas great to buzz around on errands in the little 32... dang rear tire kept spinning!!:D
That big Buick sure is torquey!:)
It still seems special to be driving a car that was in, and used!, in the same family for 75 years before it got to me.

  8. Dusted off my bought in '93 (this is a long term project) A/C; changed the R12 expansion valve to a 134 version and added a cable water valve (so the heat isn't just all or none). Stuck it in place for I hope the last time. Found only a few drips under the trans; hope it is residual and all the leaks are fixed. Switched the park light wire in the headlight plug on Mike's '33 so they are independent of the
headlights (nice if they noted this in the directions, at least the included the earlier type switch with the kit). Fixed a missing ground on the tach's light along with a loose nut on the fuel gauge; wire gremlins must have been up to the usual no good.

No pic sorry , but I disassembled my 39 ford shifter tower cleaned and lubed and installed new roll pins ( old one were loose) and it operates much better but I gotta do some work on the shift lever lower portion , will weld flat spots to build up then file it down . should help with some of the sloppiness.

Well... I changed my brand new water pump last night that I put a crack in by over-tightening the side plug with another brand new pump, then went to take the car for a spin this morning only to discover that I somehow put a hole in the Rad last night. So I learned how to weld radiators today with just a basic propane torch... took it for a spin, seems like I did a good job.

Yesterday we finally completed a deal we made early in the year on my last 40 pickup cab. He was coming from CA in March to get it and store with relatives in VA. Then you know what happened!! Coronavirus!!
Anyway, he finally got here yesterday with his brother-in-law to pickup the cab and other new Chassis Engineering parts as well as a set of caps, wheels, and tires. I put him in touch with another friend of mine that lives just off I 40 in New Mexico. He bought a 4 banger with 5 speed from me last year and hadn't managed to get it due to a multitude of reasons. They worked out a deal where the guy buying the 40 would take the engine, trans, etc back to NM. Car guys helping car guys... ain't it great?!!
IMG_5730 leaving 07 09 2020.JPG Before loading the engine. I'm hoping the guy was thinking about the great treasure he just purchased!:D
IMG_5731 leaving with paul smith to clarksville va.jpg
All loaded up and all tied down... we hope!:D
Anyway several club members joined us and helped with the loading. I took them to lunch afterward to my first meal with anybody in a restaurant since last March. The food was good but refreshing the old fellowships with pals was priceless.:)
PS We did take all the loose stuff off the tailgate before they took off!!;):D

  16. Great story, Al. Amazing how just some semblance of normalcy goes a long way to preserving our sanity..........................Don.:)

I did a little band adjusting. The pedals went a little too far on my inaugural drive into town yesterday. IMG_20200711_125338103.jpeg

Took the '57 out for a nice ride this morning around 4:30. Was only 89 degrees and clear. Will hit 115 later today.
