I am getting close to getting a 32 Highboy roadster on the road. I need some ideas on horn options. I will not be using a headlight bar. I will be using F-1 front shock mounts with headlight cups and 4 inches of bar welded to the F-1 shock mounts. Not sure a stock horn (that I do not have) will work in this configuration
I've used several So-Cal horns on my deuces. Mounted under the car out of site. Horn looks the one that was on my HD springer?
I don't have a horn on anything here. if you need one for inspection at DMV, hide it under the car? Who needs a horn? If you are needing to get someone's attention, just light the tires .
I like a loud horn hidden inside the frame with an easy to hit button, but I also like a beep-beep horn, like older VWs with a hidden button for the just wanna say hi toot... $0.02.
I started my roadster project nearly 20 years ago and planned on using one of these only to passify the DMV inspector. I guess with all the idiots on cel phones jamming up the roads nowadays I'll need something a little more persuasive like this guy uses.
The horn on a stock '32 is mounted on the fender shelf with a bracket next to the radiator, is that location/mount an option? FYI here are two horns on my AVATAR. The stock one and one under the car that is loud and sounds like a modern horn. Charlie Stephens
"Can you hear me now?" I use a manual air valve, a gentle tug yields a friendly toot. All the way out for "THE LIGHT IS GREEN, PUT DOWN THE CELL PHONE AND START DRIVING!"
if you want loud, try a 6v '47 ford trumpet horn on 12v... co worker lived 1.5 miles away... he thought is was a train's horn !
Here is a picture of the bracket to mount the horn on the fender shelf that I referenced in Post #9. Note they are available at: https://www.earlyfordstore.com Charlie Stephens
I googled 'loud motorcycle horn' to get what I wanted. Mounted out of sight but loud enough. I have '40 repro wheel and column front Limeworks, so I use their button kit. Phil
Horns are obsolete. Rig up something that texts "Wake up, you moron!!" to everyone within fifty feet. Better make it all caps, come to think of it.
I used an early VW Bug horn. Made a small bracket and mounted it at the bottom of the engine block on the driver side.
Not a 32, but here is my personal take on the question. May still be applicable. https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/between-the-horns-of-a-dilemma.1019247/
When I built my '32 Roadster in '06 I decided to us a 6V Ford trumpet horn. Simple mount to the radiator support rods with Adel clamps. Ran it through a horn relay and it's plenty loud with the 12V source.
