I'll take two. Interesting that the Standard (did that name still exist?) was called the Ford V-8. Fun video. Thanks.

    Gotta love marketing.

Items 3 and 4 are false. Other than the hub bolt pattern change, the brakes are identical from 1939 to 41. And the lever shocks from 1939 to 1940 passenger cars are exactly the same too. '40 Ford trucks got a different part number shock though...

Granted, I have a bias towards the '39, but both years are a high water mark for Ford.

    Its the head light doors!!!
And the deluxe dash that make the '40'.
Just like a 32, one year after a tone of improvements from previous years......

  5. Love them. I just sold the "Varmit" back in April. For it I chose a mix and match of parts for a different look... 39 headlights, 41 bumper. By the way, the new owner who is also a Hamber just finished painting it washington Blue. It looks fantastic.

  6. When my Dad and many others came home from WWII '40 Fords were plentiful and relatively cheap to acquire. They were the car of choice for hundreds of ex-soldiers who were looking for affordable yet peppy transportation. Beautiful cars right from the start, their appeal has only grown over the years.

40 fords are wonderful cars, period....

  8. They've been a favorite of mine since I was a little kid building models of 'em.:D 07032014.jpg 2013-10-22 13.06.45.jpg DSCN7764 (1).JPG 20170917_072156.jpg

  9. I also, as a little kid was into model cars, and '40 Fords were always my favorite.
I have had a lot of cars, but my favorite has always been the '40 Ford and '39 Deluxe Fords.
    I have my '40 p/u (avatar), a '39 Deluxe coupe, and a '41 p/u project for my next build.

    Forty's had a sway bar
Fixed windshield, (no more rain on your feet).
    Windwings, and dual ashtrays
The deluxe grill is a thing on beauty.
When I was in High School, everyone put Forty lights in their 39's, now days guys like the look of the 39's.
I even put a Forty hood, and grill on my 39 Deluxe, to make it look like a Forty. Bought the hood, and grill
from a body shop for $25. buck, back in 1963.

  14. They made great stock cars as well. Or tow vehicles in this case. 10420053_831065130308878_5027428884051456634_n.jpg

I don't know why, but I sure am glad they made them. I like mine '60's style.

That's because the people who remember them as kids are dying off. Model T prices have been stagnant for a long time for the same reason, and those are historically important cars that can still be restored and driven. You can expect muscle car and Mustang prices to level off soon (maybe they have already) as baby boomers age out of the market. That's the sad reality of the car hobby.

The fixed windshield and sealed beams of the 1940 were a big improvement, but I always liked the look of the 39 grill, headlights and taillights.

  21. I can understand why everyone wanted the 40 sealed beams. As grandpa would say, before sealed beams "you could get more light out of a lightning bug's butt".... BUT now that they have the halogen bulb conversions the 39 lights were great in my 40.

The headlights, taillights, grill, stainless side trim. The only thing you can do to improve it is remove the license plate from the middle of the trunk. IN MY OPINION.

Anyone ever see the ride stabilizer on a car? Doesn't look like the sway/stabilizer bar that went across frame and linked to radius rod bolts along with the shock links..Maybe never made it to production?

When you take a look at this one, or lothiandon1940's coupe, there's no need to ask why.

  26. Most of you know I am a Deuce Guy but I cut my teeth on '40 Fords,I have owned 1 convertible,2 tudor sedans,3 coupes and a pickup and to be perfectly honest if the right one came along I wouldn't mind having another. HRP

Being a car kid growing up, the most prolific concentration of "in" cars were any '40 Ford but a Fordor, same with '46 - '48 Fords & Mercs. The rake had hit the Pacific Northwest, & everybody tried to outdo each other with the tilt. Some had shackles so long they had to cross RR tracks sideways ...
The local muffler shop owner's son had a black DeLuxe Tudor with a Buick. I'd hang out up front & read magazines, and if his dad was gone, he'd take me on parts runs ... it was 3 blocks to the only underpass in town, which is where we headed. 13 years old, a 322'' Buick, 26'' Douglass steelpacks & 1 3/4'' tailpipes stays etched in the brain ....
And November '58 Car Craft ....

There's something to love about both, but I'm understandably stuck on my 39 Std Tudor. In a coupe it has to be a 40, and I'll take mine Std or Deluxe. While a 39 Deluxe cpe may look nearly the same the 40 is, well, enough will be said for the life of this topic. I guess the reality is that the love affair with the styling began with the 38 Deluxe, no? Granted there's cowl and access changes up to the 40 but the basic coachwork is really quite similar. Part of Ford's genius in production/marketing. The 38 Std was essentially 37 rehashed, 39 Std was 38 Deluxe, 40 Std was 39 Deluxe, and not an all in way but so close it made each model year very efficient to produce. Ok screw it, I want one of each!

I wanted one since I first discovered them in the little pages at Sladkeys’drug store back in 58.
I still pinch myself every time I see it in my garage before I slide behind the wheel.
