I had a 2 door hard top with 265 engine that I bought from an old asian mechanic back in 1966. It was in great condition. He told me not to mess with it. But after only a few months, I radiused the fender wells for big tires. Later, I put in 327 and 4 speed Muncie. Sorry.
It's no secret that the 55 Chevy is my favorite car. Got very fond of the one I have when I was six back in 1960. When we would visit my Great Aunt, my family would go into the house, and I would sit in the car out in the garage. I would often tell her that someday I would like to own the car. When I was 18, she called and told me to come and get the car out of her garage. My dream came true! At first, all I cared about were the two doors, but over time, I came to love all of the models. There is something about the design of this car that stops me in my tracks when I see one. Thanks for posting this article.
55s turn 60 this year and I wonder how many (chevys) still exist, I bet more tri five chevys have been kept or saved through the years, than any other car, early 60s back.
What's not to love??? Having recently done ALLOT of restoration work on 2 '54's, I can truly appreciate all the changes Chevy made. Never knew there were SO many options, to be had. Overdive??? and power seats and windows.!! Chevy really gave you good value, for your money. Make mine that blue 2 dr 210 wagon, Please!! Those drawings are magical. I am quite sure Jeff Norwell spent countless hours viewing glorious artwork, like in this catalog. JT
Of all the cars I have owned or lusted after, The 55 is my favorite body style of any 50s or 60s car. And I favor the post cars now, but the 55 in my opinion of the three years made the cleanest hardtop. Like Lowbudget, I wonder how many are still out there.
I like the way the factory chopped the top of every model in the brochure. Maybe lengthened them, too.

I did a frame off '55 wagon for our family, most my previous driving experience was in a fat fender coupe, early V8s and a vintage Mustang. It was an astonishing improvement in ride, visibility and comfort with controllable power. It finally helped me understand why a growing man would trade in a older but bitching hot rod for a stocker back then.
I bought this custom 55 back in 07. I remembered seeing it in the car magazines as a teenager and thinking it was the perfect 55 custom. Never in my wildest dreams did I think I would be lucky enough to own it... Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
