Big Numbers!

Big Numbers!

Maybe you’ve seen the clips below, maybe not? It’s a Plymouth promotional film from circa 1968 about drag racing called ‘Big Numbers’. The video and audio quality is pretty bad, but it is a watchable, if not enjoyable look back. I especially like the early dry lakes and drag racing history in Part 1 (which is set to old timey banjo music, for some reason?). Plenty of great footage from the 50s to early 60s in the first 8 or so minutes, featuring a number of cars you will no doubt recognize. If you decide to watch Part 2, stick around for the end credits, where you’ll see they prominently thanked Dean Moon, along with NHRA founder Wally Parks, AHRA founder Jim Tice, Hurst Shifter girl Marsha Bennett and announcer Steve Evans.
