Jeff Myers

Jeff Myers

When our kids are doing this shit years from now, they are going to cherish the name Jeff Myers in much the same way we now hold dear names like Barris, Starbird, and Winfield. He was an essential part of the custom car renaissance, a contributor to innovation, a huge inspiration to The Jalopy Journal, and more importantly – a really, really loyal pal.

Jeff passed yesterday… I last talked to him a few months ago when I was in Hawaii and he called on a part hunt. I didn’t have what he needed, but we took a few minutes to catch up. I remember hanging up the phone and thinking about how fortunate I was to have met him so long ago. I was just a teenager and he seemed like an old fart full of custom knowledge ripe for the picking. Hell, he just breathed it…

Example. I was probably 19 or 20 and living in Norman, OK when I decided that my ’51 Chevrolet needed flame throwers. I started on the install after getting directions over the phone from Jeff. About three or four hours later, I was buttoning up the install only to see Jeff pull up in his Galaxie. He drove down all the way from Wichita just to check on my work. Before he shut down the Ford, he lit his own flame throwers – scaring the living shit out of my neighbor.

That’s the kind of thing he did.

When I got the news last night, I was devastated. Losing a pal is never easy, but then I thought of his best friends in Wichita and what they must be going through. Shit man… Jeff Myers is gonna be missed.

Rather than dwell on all that, I decided that today should be a day of remembering Jeff’s passions. His cars. Post them if you got them.
