Toe’s T

Toe’s T

I drove a car for the first time in a few months this weekend… Grabbed the family, threw them in our hoopty rental, and headed up the coastline towards the north shore of Kauai with no plans of any kind and expectations to match. About halfway to Hanalei, I saw something in the corner of my eye, leaned on the brakes, and pulled off the main road. I had to walk about 50 yards back to see exactly what it was that I thought I saw and as the car went from blurry to sharp, I realized that I had found something else entirely.

Toe’s T has a build reminiscent of the 1960’s with a paint job planted firmly in the 1970’s. The stance it right, the rolling stock is perfect, and everything is where it should be. However, as I got closer I noticed a Hawaiian man sitting in the shade next to a big beautiful pitbull. As I got closer, the man got up and walked towards his car. Without getting in, he reached over the door and hit the ignition. The car fired instantly, sounded great, but quickly shut down.

“Hey man, you good? Need any help?”

Toe looked at me as if I was crazy. “No. I’m fine thank you.”

“Mind if I take a picture?” I asked.

“You may,” he replied.

For whatever reason, I was super nervous. I didn’t think he would be down with photography and left my Leica in the car. I fumbled around with my iPhone just long enough to get a couple of shots off without bothering him. Now, I wanna do a full photoshoot… Just because I want what I can’t have.
