Cruise: A Hot Summer Night in LA, 1959

Thursday, August 20th, 1959. It’s a warm Summer night in Los Angeles and the natives are restless… As usual. Fire up the Bel Air coupe, and your radio slowly hums to life right where you left it dialed into, KRLA FM, playing a neat instrumental by the Savoys called “Slappin’ Rod and Leaky Oil”. Sounds like the perfect song for driving along to. You ease the ol’ girl out of the driveway and head down to Bob’s Big Boy on West Riverside Drive to see what’s shaking. Shoot… Looks like everybody and their brother is there tonight, and the parking lot is packed of full of squares. Heck with it man, that’s ok, just keep cruising and enjoying the tunes. The night is young and this is real freedom, my friend. Not a care in the world. Say, did you see that lowered ’53 Lincoln at the Richfield Station? Pretty sweet…
