The Slick Slantback

I can’t say I remember exactly who I got the pictures below from, let alone when I got them, so apologies if they’ve been shared before… I’ve always loved the 1936 Ford’s styling for the same obvious reasons most people do. However, rather than flipping out for Roadsters or 3 Window coupes, it’s the Slantback Tudor sedans in a pre-war custom guise that really melt my heart. Maybe it’s how nicely they are proportioned, or just the practicality of having a full size back seat for the kids, but these Tudors just do the trick. Back to the aforementioned mystery photos, taken at a phenomenal hot rod and custom used car lot in 1949 (presumably somewhere in Los Angeles), the ’36 is placed between a ’40 Ford convertible (priced at $795!) and a super-clean ’32 Roadster. Just soak that in. This particular Slantback could not be a more tasteful or well-executed custom vehicle: A fantastic chop, sunk-in headlights and smooth hood sides, welded fenders, and Lyon wheel covers. Check out the fuel door on the left rear fender! Now about that asking price… $950 for that ‘ol heap?
