The Quintessential Custom 1936 Roadster

The Quintessential Custom 1936 Roadster

In my humble opinion, the 1935 and 1936 Ford’s designed by E.T. Bob Gregorie are among the most stunning car designs Ford has every produced. When I think of 40’s era customs, a 1936 Roadster falls in the top 10 of my all time lust list. When I read Swedeshoebox’s post about building this exact car, and then seeing how nice all his refurbished OEM parts are already looking, I got pretty darn jazzed. Just by looking at his bare chassis pictures, I could formulate in my mind what his quintessential prewar custom ’36 might look like, so I thought I would share some historic inspiration. There are a few must-have bits I would want if a Roadster like this came into my garage:

1. Real Hollywood flipper wheel covers, fender skirts optional

2. DeSoto ribbed bumpers

3. Packard or narrow grille, no horn grilles

4. Carson style or cut down folding top in white

5. Down in the back

I dug through Rik’s photo archives and found quite a few cars with many of my specs… So what’s yours?
