God Bless The Flathead!

God Bless The Flathead!

By 1956, the flathead Ford was mostly obsolete on the race track. Jim Rawlings didn’t care… Or maybe he did, but just didn’t have the budget for anything else. What he did have was a ratty old ’34 coupe and the desire to go racing. It’s the classic hot rod story where innovation and desire takes a man further than resources and money.

Originally, I had figured to write a pretty long and intricate story about Jim’s little car. However, after reading the feature in the December, 1956 issue of Rod Builder & Customizer, I decided it was better to let it stand on its own. Take the time to read this one – you’ll be glad you did!
