Print’s not dead… at Autobooks in Burbank!

Everytime I’m Burbank for work (about once a month it seems), I try to swing by Autobooks to check out the latest magazine and book titles on hot rods and customs. This place is a car guy’s dream, and it’s pretty darn hard to walk in that place without dropping some serious coin on the printed pulp you just can’t find anywhere else. They’ve got pretty much every cool auto, plane and motorcycle book you can possibly imagine from around the world, including independent press and limited edition titles. Often AB will have the authors sign the books they have, just to make their offering a bit more special. The magazine collection, including international titles and the cool ‘little pages’ like Church, Kustoms Illustrated, Primer, Magneto, etc., is huge, and it stretches for an entire wall. This store takes a decent hour or two just to scan the isles of what they’ve got shelved on any given day.

What’s equally amazing is that Autobooks was founded back  in 1951 by Harry Morrow, early co-owner of Road and Track, and a well-known Formula III racer and major gearhead, and now 60 years later, they are the oldest and largest automotive bookstore in the US.

Print is indeed not dead, and if you want the good stuff, support your local & independent bookshop, and check out Autobooks if you are ever in LA.
