Need help on a 54 Chevy exterior door handle

Hey Guys,

I have searched the forum a few times but have come up empty.

Can anyone help me out on how to remove these outside handles so I can get some keys made?

I appreciate any help in advance.

 

Take the door panel off and look at the clip and screw that holds it on. Remove from the inside.

 

On the door jam part there is a tab thingy you have to slide out. It clips the handle to the door. If I'm thinking of the right car. Been a while since Ive shaved my handles..

 

Just like mentioned above^^^^^^^^^^^^there's a clip on the jamb. Use a screwdriver to pry it away from the jamb and then a get some pliers and pull it completely out.

 

Yeah I was thinking it was the clip in the jam...is there a certain tool to remove it or just the ole trusty flathead?

The panel is already off and I didn't see anyway to remove it from inside...there are two screws that hold the locking mechanism in but I don't know if that will allow me to remove the handle or not.

yeah a flat head, or anything you can get in there to pry it out a ways..

 

The clip may be behind the rubber weatherstrip.
