The motivation here is that you already know that it'll be worth all that effort... no question... gonna be even killer-er.

  4. Sounds great,,but remember when you see the light at the end of the tunnel,,Beware,It might be another train!:D

    BTW,,,Beautiful car. HRP

  5. Well letting one set seems to wear things out that would have stayed in good shape as well. I have no idea why.

But you are back on track, now stay focused one of us needs to be cruising a smooth one and you are well on your way.

  6. With a killer chop like that it must be worth a few headaches. Plus, look at this way you are living the process as to how pioneers built their customs bits at a time. Historical reenactment at its best.

    Jay,

I just went thru this with my 36 Cabriolet. It started with a carson top (of course I had it chopped too) and that meant a new interior. After doing that the body and paint that had otherwise been presentable looked terrible against all that "new". Now the car is painted and pretty much all new after about 10 years on the road.

This was (still is I guess) one of the most reliable cars I own but now it is so new and prissy I don't drive it as much. That white carson top is a bitch to clean and shiny black paint, well you know about that.

    We need counseling.

I feel ya dude. My car got chopped 3 years ago and I'm just finishing installing all the glass. In fact I'm waiting on some parts for the window regulators as I type this. It will be well worth it.

Details are a bear. Once you start it's seemingly a never ending voyage. Thank God the journey is so much fun. Found out I enjoy the build as much or more than driving them!

Nice, but I don't think you should leave your keys it! Future rodder if I've ever seen one. Carp

  25. That looks so niiice!

I made my own roadster top on my 32 roadster a couple years ago. I have chopped a few convert tops, the 32... three times alone. But boy was it fun hand stretching the canvas, making patterns, and getting the overall look I desired. Such nice clean work from what I am use too. I very much enjoyed it and learned a ton. Cheaper too doing it myself!
I did have the opportunity of doing it in a friends upholstery shop though, so I had questions answered and worries relieved. It is frightening to know you might mess up your only material which you can't weld back together! Ha

Sweet ride, great luck to you...

The Mercury from 39/40 are some of the most appropriate cars to chop.. It looks incredible...

  29. Stunning car, hope my rusty 39 coupe will look as good as yours one day.
