Some top secret shit is going down at Coker Research & Development. For the love of god, don't tell anyone... BUT, they are interested in developing an 11.00-16 Firestone Dirt Tracker. To do so, however, they need an original NOS tire to study. We've... To read the rest of this blog entry from The Jalopy Journal, click here. |

Lucky Burton is the king at finding original tires. I'm sure he knows of one.

Haha, I tell ya... some people's kids.
What about Josh Shaw? Doesn't he have quite a collection of original Firestone dirt trackers?

I remember reading some years ago, one of the "big boys" in So Cal had a stash of NOS ones...hopfully they still exist and can be found.

Before they make them........approximately what year did dirt track race car tire manufactures determine to put the grooves at a diagonal, and not at the 90 degree angle. In the 1949-1950 Hot ROD magazines, all the hot rods with dirt track tires had the 90 degree tires. I guess they hadn't figured out yet, that as the ass end of the race car was hanging out, that the grooves should be angled.
I'm thinking that the angled grooves do not belong on a 40's-50's build.

Touch base with Stan Lobitz From hazleton PA (slobitz is his HAMB handle). His collection of open wheel cars and parts (including an Ohio track roadster) is mind boggling.

I have an 11.0 x 15 that I have kept out of the weather. I think it was an old dirt stock car tire. it is in really good shape.

Sorry to get O/T but whilst all the guys in know are posting, what is the ideal style front tire to be running to compliment running Dirt Trackers out back? I know there will be many size options but as a genral rule of thumb what style, make etc work with the Dirt Trackers?
Cheers

I saved the pic of you and Corky from a while back... I'm resisting the urge to post it here. Rich

P-Wood and Jake have several NOS sets from when they bought out Parnelli Jones in the late 70's to early 80's. Ring them up.Was going to buy a set while I was building my roadster but they were a lot of dough a few years ago..
Odd timing, I have been stirring the pot for a few sets through some connections over the last few weeks for my roadster. Maybe it got some attention... Was sceduled for release late this year but hopefully it will be done sooner...
