Have been contemplating how to add torque arms to a 35 36 banjo diff that will be open drive to an s10 5 speed in a low T coupe.
But been thinking is it possible to keep the torque tube up to 6 to 8 inches from the 5 speed and mount the cup of the TT on a solid plate to replicate the rear of the old 3 speed. The use some sort of short coupler to join the Flathead driveshaft to the S10 yoke. I know there are a few undecided variables in here yet, but is this practical. |

Not really. Your simplest bet if you want a torque arm is to weld tabs on top of the rear and run a link with heim joints on both ends a lot like a 3 link would be.

There was a tech with a T5 out of a jeep and adapting a torque tube to it!
Search for it. |

This years AMBR has a setup just as you describe. It as actually what sprint cars use. Check out the photos in Street Rodder and you can see how they did it.

yes I followed the jeep adaption , some pretty clever thinking going on there( too smart for me), but I was thinking ending the TT just before the tailshaft on a flathead gear box mount, with a short coupler to the T5.

There's a post by Pete1 titled "t-5 or Richmond to torque tube"

To me, this is the simplest, most direct approach ever to this age old problem. No complex machine work, only simple fabrication.

This is correct. Read this thread all the way through. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/s...d.php?t=256226
I have been in contact with him and his set up is very good. T5 from a 4x4 with his adapter behind allows for a torque tube set up. With this you can eliminate the worry about bending or breaking radius rods, even the very strong 35-36 rods. He also sells an adaptor for behind a flathead to the T5. He is a very smart man so be prepared to talk especially about the salt flats. You can PM me for his contact info.
