Saw Tim's ad in the classifieds one night, Had to have the roadster..gave him a call , and i couldn't get down to Santa Cruz fast enough. Loaded that thing up into the back of my '59 Ford and i was on my way to a dream come true, plenty of thumbs up on the way home! Had to get it in the backyard fast before mom could see it! I believe it to be an old hot rod, due to the vast amount of lead work, and gas welds. There were a few small patches done with bolts or washers as the backing. The doors were welded shut, It has a '34 dash grafted in, shoebox trunk hinges, channeled subrails, jagged cuts everywhere, including taillight holes, recessed firewall, etc.. I got to work melting the cracked lead everywhere, cutting the door open. trimming the jagged sub rails, breaking bolts, etc.. here are some pics of when i got it and some little progress i've done so far.

driver door was welded shut, cut it open, cut out the nastiness, and sandblasted it, the skin is useable, i'm going to need to rebuild the inside.
this is what i cut out..notice the beads?

Is there supposed to be a wood spacer between this front body bracket and the sub rail here? It would make sense if there were in my situation, I have the door aligned, but while doing so, i have the very rear of the body jacked up a few inches too high to accommodate. someone please educate me.

Just a few pics. Slow progress lately. Daily 59 project is priority at the moment.

  14. That's a nice start... and I wouldn't worry about how the body mounts... everything is easily changed unless you're going Full fendered... then you'd have to pay attention where everything goes.

Picked up a flathead for my roadster yesterday . 1949 mercury . Very complete, turns over and insides look great ; I think I have a gem.
Seller broke it down so I could see I was buying a true merc, and only one (I think) crack.

Making some more body work progress .
Pulled the old dash & started laying some floor. The sheet you see in the background is birch hardwood I'll be using for the final cut.

  26. I like threads like this where someone buys a car off the board and then turns around and builds it here, with a build thread. Keep the updates coming and looks good so far.

looks good. ive been meaning to look up your project. I have a complete set of wood body mount blocks for 30-31. They came with the wood kit I got at LARS, but I had already bought the 28-29 ones..
let me know if you want them..

Thanks guys, I realize the scale of my build is pretty amateur compared to some of the talent on this board. I'm giving it the best I got, it's definitely been a learning curve.
