these pictures are great. Where was this track? Thanks for posting.

  4. That is one of the greatest collections of oldtime drag racing. I've run across this collection before. However, this time I saw some shots I haven't seen before.

This one became my screen saver. If you look up the word COOL in the dictionary, this is wat you'll see (or should see).......<O:p</O:p

  11. That photo gallery is attached to what appears to be a pretty interesting website. Check out the homepage.

I'm guessing from the pictures of the trophy girl and the police officer that these are at Roanoke, Virginia? But this one looks like the strip in Suffolk, Virginia that my Dad raced at from about 1962-1964 anyone know or have more pictures?

Some of those starters are getting some serious air in those shots! You know, I read something once that said if you look at old photos of groups of people, the fat guy would always stand out. Nowadays if you look at a group photo, the skinny guy stands out alone.

That's awesome! Definitely not a bunch of lookers but Hot Rods in the purest sense of the word. Thanks for posting them.

    Wow!

Photos of hot rods from the South are very hard to come by from the early years. These capture some of the most common Southern styles:

    1. very deeply channelled early roadsters and coupes; and,

    2. roadsters and coupes that are not channelled and have a flat stance (no dropped axle in the front) or even more often, sit with a nose high stance

There's very little California influence to be found on the early roadsters and coupes in those photos.

Another quirk of Southern rods is that many, and maybe even most, did not run a grill shell at all. That is illustrated in those photos, too.

Notice the lack of geegaws, which somewhat distinquishes the Southern style from the East Coast style.

  26. WOW!!

Looks like Thunder Valley in Bristol.
